This Blackened Steak and Shrimp Alfredo recipe combines tender, perfectly seasoned sirloin steak and succulent shrimp with a creamy, cheesy Alfredo sauce tossed with penne pasta. The blackened seasoning adds a smoky, spicy kick that elevates this classic Italian-American meal to a bold and flavorful dinner option perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Protein

  • 1 pound large shrimp, raw, deveined, tail removed
  • 1 pound top sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes

Pasta

  • 8 ounces penne pasta

Seasonings & Oils

  • 1 teaspoon blackened seasoning (for shrimp)
  • 1 tablespoon blackened seasoning (for steak)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Sauce

  • ¼ cup (½ stick / 57 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced (about ½ cup)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 2 cups (476 g) heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups (200 g) parmesan cheese, freshly grated

Garnish

  • Parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the penne pasta until al dente according to package instructions. Reserve about ½ cup of pasta water before draining the pasta. Set the pasta aside.
  2. Season and Cook Shrimp: Toss the shrimp with 1 teaspoon of blackened seasoning. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté the shrimp until they become opaque and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. Season and Sear Steak: Season the cubed sirloin steak with 1 tablespoon of blackened seasoning. In the same skillet, sear the steak cubes over medium-high heat until browned and cooked to desired doneness, about 3-4 minutes per side depending on thickness. Remove steak and set aside with shrimp.
  4. Make Alfredo Sauce: In the same skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic and sauté until soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes. Pour in the heavy whipping cream and add reserved pasta water, stirring to combine. Gradually add freshly grated parmesan cheese, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens. Season with kosher salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Combine and Serve: Add the cooked penne pasta into the Alfredo sauce, tossing gently to coat the pasta evenly with the creamy sauce. Top with the blackened shrimp and steak. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Reserve pasta water before draining to help adjust sauce consistency.
  • Use freshly grated parmesan cheese for best flavor and smooth sauce texture.
  • Adjust blackened seasoning amounts to your preferred spice level.
  • Ensure shrimp and steak are cooked just until done to maintain tenderness and juiciness.
  • Serve immediately for best taste and texture.
