Ingredients
Scale
Beef Patties
- 1 pound ground beef 80/20, divided into 4 thin patties
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 4 slices American cheese
Optional
- 1 small onion, sliced into rings
Cooking
- 1 tablespoon butter or oil for cooking
Instructions
- Prepare the Patties: Divide the ground beef into four thin patties, then season both sides generously with salt and black pepper to enhance the beef’s natural flavor.
- Heat the Pan: Place a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and add butter or oil to lightly grease the surface, ensuring the patties won’t stick and will get a nice sear.
- Cook the Patties: Add the patties to the hot pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they achieve a well-browned crust and are cooked through.
- Melting the Cheese: During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty to allow it to melt perfectly over the hot beef.
- Caramelize Onions (Optional): If using onions, add them to the same pan and cook until soft and lightly caramelized for added sweetness and depth.
- Assemble the Burger: Stack two cheese-covered patties together to form one burger. Add the caramelized onions between or on top of the patties if desired, and serve hot immediately.
Notes
- This burger is traditionally served without a bun, keeping it low in carbohydrates and ideal for low-carb diets.
- For extra flavor, try adding grilled onions or a light spread of mustard before stacking the patties.
- Use a hot pan to ensure a good sear and flavorful crust on the patties, which enhances the overall taste.
