Ingredients
Scale
Dough Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Filling & Topping
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, active dry yeast, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together warm milk, melted butter, and egg until fully blended.
- Knead the Dough: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Knead the mixture for 8 to 10 minutes until a smooth and elastic dough forms. This may be done by hand or with a mixer fitted with a dough hook.
- First Rise: Cover the dough with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Divide and Fill Rolls: Punch down the risen dough to release air. Divide it into 12 equal portions. Flatten each portion gently, sprinkle a little minced garlic and shredded cheese onto it, then roll each into a tight ball, sealing the cheese and garlic inside.
- Arrange and Brush: Place the formed rolls spaced apart onto the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops generously with the remaining melted butter to help achieve a golden crust.
- Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes or until they turn golden brown and the cheese inside has melted.
- Garnish and Serve: Optionally sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over the hot rolls just before serving for added flavor and color. Serve warm for best taste and texture.
Notes
- For a more intense garlic flavor, you can add roasted garlic instead of raw minced garlic to the filling.
- These rolls are best enjoyed warm. To restore softness after refrigeration, reheat in the oven wrapped in foil at 350°F for 10 minutes.
- You can substitute mozzarella with cheddar or a blend of your favorite cheeses.
