Easy to make from scratch, these rolls rise to a golden perfection and are ideal for parties or family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Filling & Topping

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, active dry yeast, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together warm milk, melted butter, and egg until fully blended.
  2. Knead the Dough: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Knead the mixture for 8 to 10 minutes until a smooth and elastic dough forms. This may be done by hand or with a mixer fitted with a dough hook.
  3. First Rise: Cover the dough with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  5. Divide and Fill Rolls: Punch down the risen dough to release air. Divide it into 12 equal portions. Flatten each portion gently, sprinkle a little minced garlic and shredded cheese onto it, then roll each into a tight ball, sealing the cheese and garlic inside.
  6. Arrange and Brush: Place the formed rolls spaced apart onto the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops generously with the remaining melted butter to help achieve a golden crust.
  7. Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes or until they turn golden brown and the cheese inside has melted.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Optionally sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over the hot rolls just before serving for added flavor and color. Serve warm for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • For a more intense garlic flavor, you can add roasted garlic instead of raw minced garlic to the filling.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed warm. To restore softness after refrigeration, reheat in the oven wrapped in foil at 350°F for 10 minutes.
  • You can substitute mozzarella with cheddar or a blend of your favorite cheeses.
