Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups self-rising flour, plus more for kneading
- 2 tablespoons Everything Bagel Seasoning
Wet Ingredients
- 2 cups thick non-fat plain Greek yogurt (e.g., Fage)
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and spray it with no-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking during baking.
- Mix Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour and Greek yogurt. Mix them until the mixture becomes crumbly, preparing it for kneading.
- Knead Dough: Turn the crumbly mixture onto a lightly floured surface. Brush your hands with flour to avoid sticking and knead the dough until it forms a cohesive, smooth ball, about 1-2 minutes.
- Shape Bagels: Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round ball. Using your thumb, poke a hole through the center of each ball and gently stretch the dough to form a bagel-shaped ring. Place the bagels on the prepared baking sheet, spaced slightly apart.
- Apply Egg Wash & Season: Brush the tops of each bagel with the lightly beaten egg. Then generously sprinkle Everything Bagel Seasoning over the top for that classic savory flavor and crunch.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet on the top rack of the preheated oven. Bake the bagels for about 25 minutes, or until they are puffed up and golden brown on the outside.
- Cool & Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the bagels to cool for about 15 minutes. This step helps to set the texture before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use thick Greek yogurt for the best dough consistency; regular yogurt may make the dough too wet.
- You can substitute self-rising flour by mixing all-purpose flour with baking powder and salt.
- If you prefer a shinier crust, brush the bagels twice with egg wash before seasoning.
- Feel free to customize toppings beyond Everything Bagel Seasoning, such as sesame seeds or poppy seeds.
- Bagels are best enjoyed the same day but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days or frozen for longer storage.
