Ingredients
Scale
For the Cabbage Rolls
- 1 head Napa cabbage
- 1 pound ground pork (or ground chicken)
- 1/2 cup cooked white rice
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup chicken broth (for steaming)
Instructions
- Blanch the Cabbage Leaves: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Gently separate 10–12 large Napa cabbage leaves and blanch them in the boiling water for 30 seconds to 1 minute until they become pliable. Remove the leaves carefully and set aside to cool.
- Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, cooked white rice, finely chopped green onions, minced garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, black pepper, and the beaten egg. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.
- Assemble the Rolls: Place about 2 tablespoons of the filling in the center of each blanched cabbage leaf. Fold the sides over the filling and roll tightly to secure the mixture inside.
- Steam the Rolls: Arrange the cabbage rolls seam-side down in a large skillet or shallow pan. Pour 1/2 cup chicken broth into the bottom of the pan. Cover the pan with a lid and steam over medium heat for 15–20 minutes until the filling is fully cooked through.
- Serve: Remove the cabbage rolls carefully and serve warm with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- These rolls can be made ahead of time and reheated before serving.
- For a spicy kick, add a dash of chili oil either to the filling mixture or as part of the dipping sauce.
- Alternatively, you can bake the rolls at 375°F (190°C) in a covered dish for 25 minutes instead of steaming.
- Use gluten-free soy sauce to keep the recipe gluten-free.
