Ingredients
Scale
Frozen Base
- 8 frozen hash brown patties
Sausage Mixture
- 1 lb sausage
Cheese
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Egg Mixture
- 8 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- ¼ cup sour cream
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp dry mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Arrange Hash Brown Patties: Place the frozen hash brown patties evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish, creating a crispy, textured base.
- Cook Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until it is no longer pink and fully cooked through. Drain any excess grease to keep the casserole from becoming too oily.
- Layer Sausage and Cheese: Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the hash brown patties. Then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top of the sausage layer for that cheesy goodness.
- Prepare Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, dry mustard, salt, and black pepper until well blended and smooth.
- Combine and Cover: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole layers in the baking dish. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil to retain moisture while baking.
- Bake Covered: Place the casserole in the oven and bake covered for 30 minutes. This initial baking helps the eggs begin to set gently.
- Finish Baking Uncovered: After 30 minutes, carefully remove the foil and continue baking for another 30 minutes, or until the eggs are fully set and the top is golden and slightly bubbly.
Notes
- Use plain pork sausage for best flavor, but you can substitute with turkey sausage for a leaner option.
- Make sure the hash brown patties are still frozen before assembling to achieve a crispy texture after baking.
- Covering with foil during the first baking stage prevents the casserole from drying out.
- Allow the casserole to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving to help it set further and make cutting easier.
